hello guys and girls,

just wondering if any of you know the best method of bleeding the brakes on my saff,have bled the system on my ecort turbo years ago but havent done one for a long time and was just wondering if its still the same procedure as on the escort(starting at the caliper furthest away from the master cylinder)???

any more info would be great peeps as the car has been standing for a year and brakes feel a bit spongy thats all..

you need 2 people
get the rears done first
wheels off, axle stand etc
fill the resivour right to the top, it'll take some filling
turn the igntion on to p1, radio on
the abs pump will start to prime
get one person to press the pedal just ever so slightly, it only needs about an inch worth of movement so no mashing it throught he floor
open up one of the bleed nipples in the rear caliper and the fluid will get pumped through
if it's longer than about 30 seconds stop and let the pump cool down for a few minutes and then start again
wait for the clean fluid to come out first
then do the other side
keep an eye on teh fluid level as air locks in the abs valve block are a bitch to get out
once the rears are done you can do the fronts as normal

don't use the one man ezibleed things as they don't work with the pump based abs sysem on the sierra/granada set up so it's back to pumping away
the good news is that most of the fluid will have been sorted from the rears and as they share the same line it's not a lot of pumping to do to get the fronts done either

No ya dont need to drain old fluid mate, ya will get new fluid bled thro.

 

I do it differently by disconnecting the pump MOTOR(multiplug at front), turn ignition to 1 which opens the abs valves allowing normal operation/passage of fluid, then use a GUNSONS EEZIBLEED, works perfect for me everytime, I do it twice a year this way when renewing the fluid.
NB I do NOT put fluid in the EEZIBLEED, just use it as a way or pressurising the system, I have found on lots of cars that due to the eezibleed not being overly air tight that it can flood some master cylinders.
