i wouldnt have an evo 6 over your car atm tbh mate,
theyre quite bad on petrol, not that impressive standard either, not what youd expect them to be from my opinion, i was underimpressed with mine
plus your Audi looks a lot better than an Evo 6!

You must have had one shonky evo 6! Most of the evo posts that come up involve a reply about how bad yours was lol.. begs the question why you bought it really?
I guess it's like anything really, good and bad cars in every make/model.
A 450bhp S4's gotta be a stonking straight line monster! As others have said though, depends what sort of driving you like. Remember the Evo 6 is nice and easy to get a reliable 350bhp+ out of, that'll still be a nippy motor with amazing handling. The evo won't set your pants alight standard, but get one that's been tuned nicely and it'll put a grin on your face.

I done the opposite, sold me evo 7 and bought an S4, would defo not go back unless i was doing track days every weekend, and the servicing costs were horrendous, front pads trade Ł225, and a diff service every 4500 miles @ Ł200 a pop and 15mpg oh and clutches every 10k, and you have to put up with looking like a chav twat evertime you drive it, but on the plus side i used to keep up with bikes.

Bought mine damaged so that didnt help, but tbh had i bought it undamaged itd have been even worse i reckon, i just had no interest in it unfortunately.
I think its right what people say, theyre a car for corners, but its a fact the roads do not consist of only roundabouts
Maybe you forgot to put the turbo back on when repairing the damage
I've had a few evo's and I had a relatively std evo 6 (exhaust and filter) that made 315bhp on the rollers and was a quick car. Had one with a few more mods and power FC that made circa 350bhp mapped by abbey m'sport and it was a very fast road car.
On the flip side I bought a 5 the other day and it was slow as fook! Put a boost gauge on it though and it was making fook all boost. Found a few problems (dv leaking off, plugs shafted, split hose etc) and sorted them.. she's now up to std power and goes better. I'm gathering the parts for 350bhp min and then I know it'll be a nice quick road car.

Ł200 for 'diff service'

Sheesh, they saw you coming
I had (a supplied) new rear diff fitted, new gear oil, new AYC cluth bath fluid, new AYC pump fluid and AYC bleed for Ł90 form an Evo specialist! I do the AYC clutch bath change myself for about Ł7! just get the stuff from Mitsubishi or dexron III atf from motorfactors.
I do like the S4's and may well have one in the future. I'm suprised they are cheaper to run! I suppose I've steered clear of Mitsubishi dealers mostly and there's a specialist evo garage near me that's very cheap.

The pads were from Andrew page trade to me as i own a garage and i did not have the bleed system to do the AYC and no specialist in Newcastle so had to use the main steeler

You may want to buy good synthetic fluid for AYC hydraulics - like Castrol transmax Z

You need to run the ayc pump while putting in the fresh oil and bleed the whole system or you wont get all the old oil out and you will end up fooking the diff and at Ł4500 a go i decided to play it safe and get the main dealers to do it
would like to know how you do it with a spanner and some know how ?

sorry but unless you have got the proper bleed system that the main dealers have (MUT II)there is no way you can be sure its done right as you cant run the pump and get it out of there without there tool, unless you run the car on a ramp while your doing it but then you run the risk of burning the AYC clutch plates out if you run them dry of oil,Plus you need to reset the ecu and all air MUST be bleed from the system just not worth the risk IMHO, and mitsi know how shite they are thats why they insist on a service every 4500 miles
You will be lucky to get 30k out of a diff if its not serviced as per dealer requirements and i have seen loads of fooked ones !

Spend 5k on a Cos and you get 400/400 and WILL get to know an RAC/AA man within 20k miles for DEFFO!

Your Evo must have been a shitter or you like motorway blasting or both!

APMSL - didn't they just....
at the cost of pads. I have just ordered some brand new, standard front discs AND Brembo pads for my Evo VIII for Ł120 delivered! HEREI have never paid anywhere near as much as Ł200 for a full service either, which includes changing all oils [engine, transfer box, g/box & SAYC et al] and new filters.
An Evo is no different on fuel to any other high perf car if it's driven hard all the time.

Regarding the AYC fluid..
The clutch bath fluid and the pump system are 2 separate systems. The clutch bath fluid is a simple drain and fill on the rear diff. The pump system is separate and the reservoir in the boot is part of it. The only part you need to change every 4,500 is the clutch bath fluid.
I have written an idiots guide to this in the technical archieve on the MLR.
The pump system shouldn't get dirty and even mitsubishi have gone up to 18k interval on this part.

Driving on a long distance run to TOTB in 2006 when the car was only running 300bhp, I managed to get 290 miles to a full tank [55 litres] and I wasn't hanging about either. The benefit of having a 6th gear helps....
