You can tow a certain amount despite passing since 1st jan 1997.
7.5 tonne test is different to a tow test, so assume this will make no odds.
Not looked into it though.

Well that's so you can drive heavier vehicles, not tow more weight.
Should be plenty of info on the net, if you can understand it!
I've class 2, but don't think I can tow any more than anyone else who passed before 97 and on just a car licence.

like he said. But don't know how it works in the UK but here in NL you have to do a different test for that. So a test for the truck and anothere one for the trailer part.

The answer is NO,
Look at link (Upgrading) and it shows how the upgrading of lower category licences works.
To gain E (trailers) at a lower level (B) you have to take an E test at the higher level. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...ons/DG_4022548

I think you're limited to 750kg on the trailer without an E extension.

You are breaking the law if you just have a normal licence, if you are over 30, you are probably ok as us old farts got extra stuff "free" when we did our test years ago.

Depends on the weights, if the MAM goes above 3500kg's, might be ok with a little van.
You can still go up to this weight if sticking to certain factors.

so is the 750kg limit trailor weight on its own or with car being trailored? My trailor is only light, car is only 850kg so with tow vehicle will be under total of 3500kg limit, is that ok?

no you cant do that legally as the car alone is 850kg's add the trailer to that & its well over the maximum of 750kg's you can tow on your licence. up to you if you want to take the risk though (plenty of people do) a car licence is B, a trailer over 750kg's is +E so you would need B+E on your licence. hope that clears that up for you
