Excuse the lack of knowledge I'm not a Renault fan normally but quite like these, looking at replacing the better halfs car at the end of the year and we both like the idea of one of these, anyone got experience with them???

I took a test drive in one. Had it out for 4 hours. Also took out the ST, clio 192, Astra VXR, and a few other hot hatches of the type.

Out of them all the Megane was probably the quickest, and best handling, in standard form (handling possibly the clio but didn;t have it for as long).
I've been meaning to write a proper review for a while but not got a chance.

As a daily driver, I couldn;t personally live witht he megane. It had typical renault build quality, so expect parts to fall off on a daily basis.
But as a tool for embarrassing expensive machinery, it was amazing.

Ok thankyou both for all the info and pointers!
The megane is a clear favourite at the moment, can't see it changing much to be honest, also considered a Golf GTI (more expensive obviously) and an Astra VXR but the Megane is quicker than both of these (well it was on top gear) so I think i'll have to arrange a test drive in one to see what "the boss" thinks as it will be her car. her preference is actually the new corsa VXR but we can't justify spending that kind of money on a tiny car, so I hope she likes the Megane!

Mate of mine has a R26, a rechip free'd it up to produce around 270 BHP. Its proven to be perfectly tractable in the wet and the dry as well without the ESP style systems being too invasive so I guess there's more to come from the engine.

I take it you've all seen the renault advert for this car...

Really really cool ad I gotta say especially when all the turbos whistle their way onto the engine.
