Can take a while sometimes for the lifters to fully fill up with oil - I've had a noisey lifter that lasted I'd guess a good 30 mins of use. Other times they've gone quiet within minutes.

Check the timing and line the bottom pulley with the lug and pointer not the groove and pointer, when lined with the groove the valve can kiss the pistons and it will sound like tappet rattle.

If its valve to piston contact it will stop once its made a big enough dent in the top of the piston i would check all timing is as above before driving any ferther

It could take a few hundred miles to fully settle, mine did, despite the oilways etc being clean, as flushed out oilways etc.
My car still sounds cammy, but is actually(on mine) piston slap, as it's a bit tired 120,000 + miles now!!

in all truth fella i would not worry bout it!unusual for a 4x4 to get pistonslap!but u have to remember its a cossie these are basic old things really and generally noisey old things when cold!give your tappets a chance to settle in!

My noise gets a lot less when warmed up but sounds like a tractor till then.
As said use of 4wd(tractor!!) pistons cures it mostly, but due to the inherant design there will always be a little bit when cold, but a lot more so on 2wd, the gudgeon was moved on 4wd to counter this.
Piston slap causes no harmful effects, and is just a characteristic rather than a fault.
Personally unless it is drinking oil(like mine!!) I would not do anything.
