just bought meself a S1 turbo.....
but unfortunatley its got a buggered engine. i think the big ends are knocking and it smokes like a good un.
so i am in a bit of a predicament.....
do i...
1. rebuild the original engine
2. find a good replacement
3. go for something a bit special, ZVH maybe?

i have been looking on ebay for a good motor, but there isnt much down here in devon!. they all seem to be up counrty

i was also wondering if the bottom end of a standard 1600cvh is ok to use with the turbo?

yeah its not to bad, theres a few bits here and there but nothing that cant be put right.
its suprisingly standard... which is nice!!

yeah it was, just 15mins down the road from me.
too good a opportunity to miss.... but i didnt realise just how rare or expensive a S1 is to get!.... but i am glad i got one now, well i will be when its going!!

ive got a nice zetec turbo engine ready to slot in mate but im from scotland which is a fair trek

i am being drawn towards zetec or zvh , but just one thing i want to find out.... can a standard 1600 cvh non turbo block, crank etc be used instead of the RS turbo block, cos they are easier to find, and cheaper to pick up. does anybody know???

 

Ive got a turbo block in my garage its got a melted piston though, dont want much was rebuilt and run in then mapped wrong

 

Depends how much money you have. A good ZVH will be a lot more than getting your standard engine rebuilt.
Unless you know the 2nd-hand one you may end up with a duff engine that will need rebuilding so will be paying twice on that one.
