Well a roofer should be able to do all roofing to call himself a roofer imo but lets say pitch roofing...namely slate!

Yeah of course mate...

.. strip old roof, felt & baton, lay valleys etc, re-tile/slate, flashings, bed ridge-tiles & point bonnets/verge etc is what I would consider " Roofing"

Spent last 9 years as a chippie' and pitched plenty of roofs, among all the other 1st/2nd fix Chippie' work.

But still miss the ol' Roofin' days ( inspite of all the hard, hard graft involved) and was the best crack i've had

Was just gonna ask what the hell do YOU personally do to stop breaking so many bloody slates when bedding the ridges and hips on when the roof is slated! I was just so fucked off the day i posted this as i must have broke 10 slates when doing the hips.....

Forgot to add its not like when i do a rosemary roof cos i can leave pockets out then slide the tiles in as a few not nailed isnt a worry. But you cant do this with slate so you have to use copper straps when you replace the broken one which is toss on a new roof. twatting things!

Duck ladder up to the ridge, and spread your weight using scaff' boards if poss' on verge's etc......

Never broke any new slates on roof, ( & hate copper straps on new roofs) but being 10st wet through back then might have been an advantage
