My van sounds fucked
55plate Ford Transit Connect, LWB, 35k on clock....
Strange sounds that sound like they coming from the front N/S wheel area - a constant grinding that gets louder/more so dependant on speed, and worse a "banging", "clunking" sound that happens under load ingear, in gear without load, in neautral - basically anytime rolling, but gets more frequent/faster the higher the speed - for example, it bangs around twice a second when doing 20-25mph, but at 70 it bands 4 or 5 times s second
But not always, it's not 100% constant....
Anyway, jacked it up and took the wheel off. First thing I noticed is it's hard to turn the hub/brake disc as it feels like it's grinding against the pad/caliper. Having a poke around the suspension/hub set up, I can't find anything loose or "broken" - all bolts and nuts on the track rod ends, ball-joints, driveshafts, caliper, steering arms, strut etc all tight, no cracks found in anything, spring tight in the shock, shock top mounts tight, no split boots or gaiters, no leaking fluid from anywhere......
In fact the only thing I did find was the big ass 32mm main hub nut wasn't so much loose, but I could get a just under 1/4 turn out of it to really torque it up (by ratchet - not got a torque wrench) After that tho, the banging got worse
Sounds at times like it's driving with a box of rocks in the gearbox, but then at other times it don't. Wind the N/S window down and listen to the sound reverbarate from walls etc, it sounds like your driving along with a shopping trolley tied to the van - there isn't one, I checked
Grinding, whirring, creaking, banging, thumping, squeaking - annoying as fuck
But I can't find anything broken
And it doesn't drive any differently, as far as steering or suspension feel go.... It's slow as fuck, but has been for ages. YOu have to rev the tits off it to pull away, put your foot flat on the floor it don't pull virtually at all untill it gets over 3,500rpm....
Stumped!

Sounds very much like my Clio did when it virtually welded the outer offside CV joint together after a full day at Bedford with a split gaitor! lol I thought the car was gonna shake itself to pieces!
