Default scrap prices.

does anyone know the rough prices for lead when weighing it in? im currently stocking up on lead from left over job's and i probably have 100kg's worth so far. just wondering what its worth as i may just get rid of it now or keep stocking up on it.

by the way none of it comes from the local church roof, it isnt stolen, its just leftovers from a load of jobs.

does it make any difference that it's clean and un used? i think i will keep saving it then and build up a little bonus. doesnt hurt to sit in the shed for months and untill i have got a load more.

i dont know if they take that into account, but some places take into account the lead content of it.

keep it, you can check the rate online it goes up and down every day.

You looking at 80p-£1.20 depending on the mood of the guy at the scrappy, doesnt matter if its new or used aslong as its clean (no steel, copper or plastic and stuff like that on it)

size is also a good thing with scrap metal, 6-8inch pieces and they give you a higher rate (well the one near me does)

Just dont try pinching 5 ton of the stuff and loading it in the back of a tranny, you wont get very far before the axle gives up just ask the guys that tried it the other week from work

Phone a fair few places before you weigh it in, when we had some to get rid of we were finding places quoting as much as 30% difference in price.

Also depends if you know the fella at the scrappy as well.

My mate took some old heaters in and got quoted £60. I took the same 2 heaters in the next day and walked out with £140...(I know him..)

Depends on the copper mate, at the yard I work you get £3.50 a kilo if its bright copper wire (just stripped out of cable), normal copper pipe and copper with grease is only £3 and if its got brass valves an shit still on it its £2.60. If the customers an arse tho I usually knock 30-50p off the price per kilo.

Used to get a 2 gypo's coming in with batterys and lead every 2nd day, one day got stopped by the police, van was 4 ton overweight Sitting on its arse and the back tyre was flat on it lol
