Default Jap imports???

When you get performance cars imported from japan are the engines the same as Jap cars built for U.K.

what are the differences between the two? all i can think of is ECU's speced to run different fuels?

im looking to get a evo 7 but dont know what the point would be to get a U.K. car as jap imports seem a little cheaper.

Cheers in advance for any info

They are cheaper, but as always with importing Jap cars, can you really be sure of the mileage? There will be conversion work (Speedo, Fog Light etc etc) and insurance will be more expensive being an Import.

It will likely be mapped for Jap fuel too, which is higher Octane than ours.

There may not be a Cat in it either, we have seen at least one with no cat and no place in the exhaust for one, so adaptions had to be made for that.

Some insurers simply won't touch Imports, but most apply a fairly big loading. I couldn't put a figure on it.

Oh, also the car probably won't be undersealed, which is something that MUST MUST MUST be done before it is used on UK roads for any length of time.

jap vehicles also have different parts used too, hondas for example can not use uk spec exhausts as they are too short compared to the uk ones

there are specialists who do jap car parts ( blueprint, nipparts ect ) but theres gonna be a piss taking loading on it if its jap part only !

im doing alot of research on jap stuff for work and have been for the last few months,,,,, its a bastard to say the least !!!

Just get a car you cant even get here and they have no idea what one is, insurance is cheap as fuck then.

My car is 50quid more with all mods declared and fully comp than a shitbox standard Sierra GLSI valued at 250quid 3rd party only...

Insuring imported cars isn't always much more than UK anyway, my old RX7 didn't cost much more than a UK one (30 quidish?)...

im with A plan, they was the cheepest but STILL 25% more than a turbo 2000 in my case !

its to do with the parts being harder to get hold of and taking longer to repair aswell as costing more too

oh and insurance coomapnys are also greedy bastards who LOVE to find ways to rip off us cunt who will pay it anyway

almost no different from most the jap ones?

obv some models, type-r's etc are better spec, but your average UK spec and average Jap spec FD RX7 are no different really, and deffo none once modded.

and at least UK ones come with safe UK maps.

on a slightly diff note, UK spec supras were actually the best ones of any in the world in power and spec

I owned a Jap Spec VII. They do come mapped for higher octane fuel and knock a fair bit even on 98, they came with the speedo limiter set also (both easy fixes with software download a some knowledge on maps).

They were never released here in Oz so insurance wasnt an issue. HID's are in them but are supposed to be removed for compliance here but mine had them in still.

Think that was all off the top of my head. Great cars, just buy as well as you can and if its cheap, its for a reason
