I dont remember ever seeing one either, hence the question, as saw an argument about Sapphs on another forum.

Seen 5doors and Estates, but dont ever remember seeing a Saff, but cool, now I know.

Apparently so. Luckily, intimate knowledge of 4x4 non-turbo Sapphires isn't a prerequisite of the job. I do know some other stuff. Honest!

If you think that a 2.0 8v 4wd sierra is a FAST ford, you are very easily pleased.

As editor of a ford mag it isnt his job to know about every weird and wonderful obscure slow niche vehicle variant ford ever made, only nerd's even care about such things

XR4x4 was only available in hatchback form with 2.8i, 2.9i V6 and then for tax break, 2.0i
4x4 Ghia was available in sapphire form in 2.0i 8v guise
4x4 Ghia Estate was avaiable with 2.8i, 2.9i and 2.0i 8v engines
GLS 4x4 was available in hatchback guise with the 2.9i engine

XR4i was originally 2.8i V6 in a Mk1 3 dor shell, but then in 1991 was again made but with a 2.0i DOHC 8v engine in a normal sierra hatchback shell - these were only 2wd.

They certainly did. I have one.

The amount of people that think they are Cossies when you say you have a 4be Saff is unbelievable. Underrated car for what they are. Granted, they are not high-speed missiles, but they never were meant to be.

They have the corner-handling of a 4be Cossie, with the mpg (38mpg on a run and 30mpg round-town) and reliability of a normal car. Mine even has a/con, leather interior, heated screens, electric sunroof, etc... Basically, fully loaded from the factory.

Some people will hate them, some will love them.
