Default Removing a 4x4 engine advice please.

Hi guys im just looking for advise on how to remove the engine from a 4x4 sapph. We have removed the front drive shafts, unbolted all bell housing bolts and unbolted front diff and engine mounts, There is now a 1cm gap between the engine and box and engine and front diff although there seems to be an axle running between the diff and gearbox which is stopping me removing the front diff. The problem I have is that when lifting the engine the front diff and speedo-drive are hitting the cross member. How do I fully remove the font diff? Do I have to unbolt the speed drive area so I can remove the axle I can see that is stopping the diff coming out?

Any help appreciated.

drop the crossmember as the engine won't come out through the top with the diff in place

and you have to remove the crossmemebr to get the diff out

just be prepared to have manly mucsles when undo them 4 big bastard bolts, because they can be a bit tight

almost forgot, don't forget to undo the steering intermidiate shaft at the blukhead as well otherwise it pulls the steering column centre out

As Dojj said ^^^
Your better off taking out the engine AND box at the same time (will be alot easier to put it back in if your doing this???) and dropping the front cross member. I have pics on my photobucket account but i can't access it at work. Do you have an engine hoist?????

the alternative is to leave everything on the engien crossmember and drop this first, then you can lift teh car up and split the box and engine while it's on the deck

just make sure you have a trolley jack or at least a big sheet of plywood underneath to help you drag it all out

Hello mate

This is what I was thinking, can you tell me if I remove the Speedo drive will I then be able to slide out the black shaft I can see in between the diff and engine? As this is what's stopping me removing the diff at the moment. Sorry for not talking technical terms.

Kind regards
