im loosing oil im my escos its not leaking it and its not burning it out the exhaust when i shut off or anything, its had a rebuild about 5k ago. i do about 700miles and its back on minimum, but i only use it as a second car and i do give it a bit of stick? any ideas

 

the joys of cossie ownership mate i think ford state to check oil daily.... and they say they use half a pint of oil every 500 miles... and thats when they where new...........

 

yep manual says expect to lose 1 litre of oil every 600 miles depending on how you drive it

if its burning more than that with no obvious smoke or leaks, then it could be the turbo oil seals weaping when on boost, as the turbo is that hot it can atoomise the oil without it producring any smoke. a rebuild kit is about Ł45 and takes a couple of hours to do ...

ps you'll need a special service tool though......

Roller bearing turbos use less oil due to there design

Mine uses loads it tends to use more if its topped up to the max too!!so i keep it between min and max.

I was told by a well know supplier of cosworth parts to do this due to the head retaining about a litre of oil so when running at max on the dip theres technically to much oil in the engine,makes sense to me

costina, totally agree...

you should only ever fill the oil to half way between full and empty, if you fill it up to the full mark you can get rid of that much oil in a single good run - dont panic that its down to half way, just keep weekly check on that that it stays about there.
