as of our trackday we not only had the car painted but also we added a emerald ecu that then got jays mapping.
somehow there was a magical missunderstanding when we talked about boost......so jay gave it whatver he could whereas i meant 1 bar maybe 1.2.
we gone on track, jay (fookin man mountain gangstaaa) in the passenger seat.....i revved the little sucker.......then on came the boost and my aim dash then showed me around 2280 mbar......
FUCK ME THAT THING WENT
but not for long until the LC-1 gave up and we were covered in a thick layer of smoke.....
the big man jay a tad speechless next to me when i said : man, thats fucked
so the old engine gave up its ghost and is now ready for replacement......

197bhp from a standard (and pretty much guarenteed to be reliable) N/A engine with awesome throttle response and utterly no lag is plenty in a renault 5 track car.
I believe it will be quicker laptimes than on the turbo motor with its worse power deliver, excessive mid range boost that tails off, and lack of throttle control.
Im a big fan of turbo motors, but in this situation, I reckon the more modern multivalve larger capacity N/A is the better of the two options personally.

2 bar iirc but obviously the valve was workin correctly ,plus adding to the fact the car wasnt mapped at all properly with no det cans due to being on track with helmets but i did say it needing setting up the day before properly but with not finishing the car until 3am on the saturday when we were on track was defo a recipe for disaster next time mike we need more time
So the boost valve wasnt working, so you couldnt actually control it anyway, you werent allowed to use det cans, and you had in fact not mapped it anyway as you hadnt had the time.
And yet its YOUR fault it blew up somehow
With friends like that, you dont need any enemies starting rumours about you, LOL
You should get a t-shirt saying "the fall guy" for your next visit

chip, thats why i call you a backstabber.
i knew exactly well that this engine is gonna blow up and thats what we intended. it was to find the limits. jay is a fabulous lad and did exactly what i told em to do. there was even a post of mine months ago with a poll of whos gonna blow it up and yes, it was me.
we all had a laugh and you are now making something out of it that never happened and u make jay look unknowledgable which for sure he is not.

whatever it was jay, when the car went on the trailor (unmapped) mike already said it was smoking badly....most likely the damage was done on the last trackday and it just blew this time....
again though, I COULD CARE LESS....it was a 200 pound engine that had 70k miles on it....so HAD to fail 1 way or the other

All joking aside though with a working basemap and knowing the loom etc must now be all ok, (if it was going that well there cant be any major issues on that side) then with a quick freshen up (or replace, lol) of the engine and a bit more time, it sounds like its going to be a little animal on track, and on the plus side, at least it gives you an excuse for another visit

or we could go for the clockwork 197 and fit it once lol
either way ill be there to help
Back to being serious for a bit, that 197 lump does sound like a better option than snotty old turbo motors from a scrapyard, that sort of thing is great for a bit of fun, but its never going to be a reliable car that way, where as with that 197 lump you could have been out ALL day in that R5 with no drama I bet, and probably made some really exotic cars look silly on the track

Which is exactly what you want by the sounds of it, a communal fun little car that you and all your mates can jump in whenever you are bored, and just abuse round the track for a bit, switch it off at the end and not have to do anything to it before you use it again
I think that everyone did a great job of building the car, and I think that it's all Mike's fault, as I'm sure he asked for 2 bar
.
I think it another 1.7 litre lump should be purchased and it mapped for a nice conservative 1.2 bar - you know how quick it was on 0.8 - will be as cheap as cheaps and will use all the parts you already have. Personally to throw all the intercooler / trubo etc in the bin, just doesn't make sense when another Renault 1.7 litre engine can be picked up for next to nothing. You just need some time mapping it then WELL BEFORE the track day, not on the day
