Stripping down the unknown turbo in my mates 2wd saff and 2 of the turbo to manifold studs snap, managed to get one out with a stud extractor but the other isn't going any where, its "waisted" down to less than 6mm so the stud extractor wont grip it any more, tried heat and a vice grips but that just snapped it off...

Then 3 of the 6 bolts that hold the turbine housing on snapped, whilst drilling a pilot hole in one the bit snapped and is now jammed in there. Got a hole drilled in another and then the "hardened steel" screw extractor snapped in it....

Is the turbine housing scrap...???

 

Can you not take it a specialist engineers and see what very can do with it.

 

I think a spark eroder will remove pretty much anything if you know of someone with one? I had the same prob on the 'trousers' part of my manifold and they got it out.

 

A spark eroder would certainly do it, down to 1/4mm size hole!!

how about my day,tightening the timing belt pulley,couldnt get it tighter than 12nm,then pulled the stud out of the head,got my pal to helicoil it,then i broke the coolant temp sensor.i did want to take it out tonight!i kicked the wheel in disgust then slammed the door while muttering.i hate it sometimes.

 

this happened to me yestreday although mine was 30nm max, needed helicoiling as well but im still waiting for a new stud and nut to arrive

 

Mine Was Like That Before I Touched It,it Came Undone Really Easy Which Made Me Suspicious.i Heard Of Somebody Having Their Engine Wrecked By The Stud Pulling Out Of The Head So I Was Really Wary When Tightening It Up.i Dont Have A Special Engine But It Would Really Annoy Me Having To Rebuild It Because Of That Happening.least Thats 1 Thing Sorted,just Hope The New Sensor Arrives Tomorrow So I Can Take It Out To See If Everything I Have Done Is Ok.ordered It On Monday From P.j Motorsport And Still No Sign Of It!
