Default Air bag fuse blowing

Was driving along first thing this morning when my air bag light came on and stayed on. Was a bit busy so I didnt manage to take a look at it tonight when I found it was a fuse gone. Ive put two new fuses in and within 10 seconds of driving the fuse has gone and the light is back on.

Had a quick look around the car for broken wires or anything rubbing but couldnt see anything. Tomorrow im gonna clean up all the earths I can see and check the wires in behind the steering wheel.

ive had a quick look at the circuit diagrams in the haynes manual but I dont really have much knowledge about electronics so could someone give me a few hints as to what im looking for?

Soo what would cause this? I really hope its something cheap as I need to sort out other things.

Cheers.

When you say a fuse had gone was it the fuse for the airbags (what does it say the fuse does on the fuse box cover?)

The above diagram is just for the instruments and warning lights. You would need the diagram for the airbag circuit to see what the fuse feeds.

Messing around with air bag control units and circuits can be dangerous if you dont know what you are doing. It may be best left to an auto electrician or a Ford dealer.

Thats a very valid point you got there mate and well worth pointing out, im only doing it myself as im looking to sell the car and dont want to spend any more money on it. Everytime I take a look at it im d/c the battery and leaving it for half hour to lose the bags charge.

Anyway I thought id fixed it last night but drove to work this morning and the first time the indicators cancelled the fuse blew. Put a new one in and it blew instantly and the last one I put in again blew when the indicators cancelled.

original.gif Soo any more info as to what it could be?
