What gets me is MadRod going on like the Reyland car aint shit,LOL
Listen, the Escort is a rally car bred for downforce and going fast around a forest, the saff is a taxi designed to get people from a to b as fast as possible LOL hence more aerodynamic, with RWD and the same power and lighter the saff will be faster,to get that Escos to 198.7 mph was amazing considering its a fooking rally bred car

Its all about aerodynamics. The force required to overcome the drag at those speeds increases exponentially with every extra mph. Weight has very little to do with it apart from the speed of the initial acceleration which may give you a couple of metres more on the confines of brunters
If these cars were run on an autobahn etc i'm sure we'd deffo be seeing some of the numbers we all want

Just to confirm - 996 porsche turbo owner - 550 bhp and 205 mph - which is awesome and I am a big porsche fan, was considering a 996 recently.
One thing, u won't be hitting 205 in the confines of brunters on that much power. That is what we are using as the measuring ground. Loads of cars with less bhp that Martin's n rods can do 200mph - not many of them can do it at brunters... which runs out very quickly at 150mph - so can only imagine how quickly it runs out at c200 mph

Hi Dunlop -
Yeah - I did consider one as its the next logical progression from the M3. Only issue I have is that I drive my M3 19k miles every year JUST to and from work. Add personal miles and its more like 30k miles. That really de-values expensive cars. Plus I tend to go for it, top speed wise every day. Getting spotted at 168 is one thing (and shitty bad news it would be too!) but getting spotted at around 200mph would be curtains and get me a record that I don't really want. As such the M3 just strikes me as a great balance of practicality, value for money and under cover performance
I'd need to get the 996 as a second car - or more much closer to work!
I'll get something sorted but not for a while yet
Cheers!

i think dave needs to be a bit more specific with his question
"in a road legal car how much power do you need to get to 200 mph within the confins of brunters" would be better
otherwise you get dragged into the "areodynamics" vs "p/w ratio" for the inital acceleration off the line" all the way to "i do it wearing cardigans"

thats not what i know, it was designed for international rallying first and road car second,
the standard road car shell is not much like a escort cos, and the reyland fella is pushing
that car way beyond what it was designed for.
