Default twin intercoolers?

Just looking at alternatives to an FMIC for my Golf and I've found some info on a twin intercooler setup similar to the Audi TT and S3s

Would this be as good or will it just create more lag?

any views?

There is likely to be more of a pressure drop using two smaller intercoolers over just using one big FMIC.

Those 'Twin' Intercoolers you refer to are exactly the same concept as 'Twin-Pass' Intercoolers, like the GRS RST cooler, which I am using and have been using for ages. As far as I remember, they have an external 'elbow' to join the top and bottom cores, as oppose to an 'end-tank'.

It's a good idea and will work IMO.

I have these on my Leon Cupra R....there is no lag to speak of by using them!

There is a long solid pipe that joins them together running across the front of the car, behind the rad.

Essentially its not going to be significantly different to if the two were just joined together into one longer one.

Will work fine.

the one I'm looking at puts another intercooler in the passenger side wheel arch mirroring the one I have as standard. As bud-weis says they are linked by a pipe running behind the rad. In my case I would also have to change the inlet manifold for one that has the throttle body on the other side, but this is included I think. If not I can get the inlet off a TT.

Cheers for the replies, I'll keep my eye on this

Personally i would search for someone breaking a Leon Cupra R, and just have all the bits you need off it.

I think the intercooler you already have will be almost identical to the one in the drivers side of the Leon/TT/S3...
