Those 'Twin' Intercoolers you refer to are exactly the same concept as 'Twin-Pass' Intercoolers, like the GRS RST cooler, which I am using and have been using for ages. As far as I remember, they have an external 'elbow' to join the top and bottom cores, as oppose to an 'end-tank'.

It's a good idea and will work IMO.
