Default Petrol Cap getting stiff

ok so my petrol cap is getting really stiff is this a common fault or is there something wrong any ideas as I have been standing in the petrol station for like 10 minutes before trying to get the cap open
Please help me

I had this few years ago eventually the lock spun in the palstic and i was foooked.

hAD to drill the lock out to get it off.

I would head to the scrappy and get a new one ASAP.. Try lubing the lock you have see if that frees it up

wd40 is your friend mate- soak it in and work it into the mechanism, should do the trick.

very common....best thing to do is take the e-clip off the back,strip it all down and lubricate everything....snapping the key in it when your at the petrol station with no petrol is not funny....

i have tried spraying wd40 through the lock but that didn't seem 2 work but i will try stripping it down and lubing it up see if that helps if not ill have 2 buy a new one and re spray it.

one question is it hard 2 strip down the petrol cap i don't wanna do it then find i cant get i back together and have people steeling my petrol till i can get a new cap?

k i have put some lude in the petrol cap and lock and it seems a bit better will see if it holds later when i get petrol if not ill have 2 get a new barrel

I had the same problem on my Escort, you need to REALLY soak it in oil, and I mean get some 3in1 and soak it in a container. Works a treat.

Yeh i had the same prob its a nightmare isnt it, I sprayed it with wd40 once a week for 3 weeks and now its sorted new caps aint much dosh though
