Default cvh valves

Is there any difference between the valves in an RS turbo (MFi) head and a 1600 Orion Head (EFi)?

Cool, I'll just need to change the exhaust valves in the new head then for mt EFi conversion?

yes pretty much, they should fit the efi head IIRC....or you can have the mfi head adapted to suit efi by profiling the intake port like the efi one.

Whole EFi head only cost me £20 with new rockers/lifters and springs, so I thought i'd be better off with that

ohh forgot to mention dont just change the cam or it'll eat the new lifters to bits in a few thousand miles....use the ones from the rst cam if possible.

Just as a precaution as i've seen the cam chew up on a few rsts in the past by changing just the listers or just the cam.

The inlet valves are also very different, but both types work very well.

Right, so can I leave the std valves in then and just use the rst cam and lifters?
I've got a piper N/A cvh cam kit I can get really cheap if I want it, would that work well in a turbo'ed engine?
Whats the difference between the cam pulleys?

Well what year car/lump did the mfi head come from? If its a pre Dplater then you need to swap the exhaust valves over.

I was unaware of the D plate cutoff though...I htought it was all mfi heads had sod filled valves..my bad.

Its an E plate MFi head, and the EFi head i've bought was from a late orion ghia so I'll presume i'm Ok with valves (most prob buy new ones anyway for peace of mind tbh),
I am interested to find out what the differences are between the MFi RST cam and the EFi Orion 1600E cam though? and the Pulley difference if any?
Ta for the help so far btw

if your buying valves buy sodium ones, they cool better....as for the cam and pulley differences I havent got the foggyest m8...cam profiles are probably better suited to turbo application and not n/a

I'll stick the N/A cam kit in then and see how I get on. If it drives shit, i'll put the other one in when the engines run in

I told you EFI cam is better then MFI one, but stay on RST pulley. That what I was told by good tuner.

Ok mate cheers, any idea what the difference is between the pulleys? The cam i've got is a non turbo efi cvh cam if that makes any difference?

Thats good cam. timing is different and that's done by using different pulleys... RST pulley should have KA on it. But in reality you will feel nothing in comparition to RST MFI cam. But I was told that EFI one has better profile, so use that one for few extra BHP.

I liked the EFI cam a lot in comparison to the std. cam.
The RST pulley has 4 degrees of retardation.
The sodium valves are way overrated. There's nothing wrong with the standard valves.

Here's the efi inlet vales on the left and mfi on the right.

I was told by my tuner, that EFI valve design is better. But as I bought bigger valves from burton they had MFI valve design for some reason

All the the escort/orion 1.6cvh cam shafts are the same profile (and have the same part no. at Ford), but the EFi cam shaft is made from a harder material and so doesnt wear as fast!
I think any new cam shaft bought from ford now will be made of the harder material, unless they have a random old cam lying around from pre 1989!
