Default Newbie needs help!!!

Allo people, new to all this and I like the look of things so far!! I have a mk6 escort Si which has a 2ltr zetec fitted,I have stripped the interior cos I wanna use it for the track, the car hasnt been run for 8 months, can anyone tell me what procedures to follow (apart from the obvious) to get her running again, I know it will need a new battery, full service etc... but I just dont want to miss anything out, I have basic mechanical knowledge so any info will be a great help, cheers.

remove the spark plus and turn the car over on the key (once you've got a battery fitted) until you get oil pressure - the oil light should go out on the dash
