Not owned one but ridden a couple of mate's one's.
In truth there fucking animal's power everywhere.
Just make sure it doesnt have the rear rotary shock, if it has replace with ohlins and its a spot on bike
Been after one for a couple of years now

the above IS a good shout
and also be carefull as they do suffer with wiring issues(rotten looms) that run just by/under the tank!
and due to being a v engine with alot of torque if dropping down gears be carefull as back wheel WILL tend to lock up albeit for a split second but you'll see what I mean

As above, never owned one but ive only ever heard good things about them.
It really depends on what you want from a bike, as im sure your aware. Different bikes suit different people and different riding styles and all that.

Yep, I had one back in 1998 when they first came out. Was taking my GSXR600 in for a service and my dealer had one of the first TL's in the country just arrive.
Didnt even bother getting the 600 serviced, just traded it in on the spot for the TL!
Awesome bike and awesome sounding. Took a while to get used to riding it as it was heavy compared to the 600 but loved it in the end.

Mate had one but he binned it twice, the 2nd time was done in style
It was a lovely bike in the Corona extra colours and sounded awesome with the twin carbon rear cans.
Apparently they are known for getting into speed wobbles, that was his excuse for dropping it the first time, the 2nd time was more spectacular and alot more stupid

I had the use of one for 6 months while my pal was in Iraq. As mentioned the rotary damper is supposed to be dodgy but the one I had was fitted with a Maxton rear shock. Awesome fun bike and one of the easiest to wheelie if thats your bag
They sound gorgeous with a pair of race cans
Theres something organic feeling about twins and that doesnt get much better than on a TLR IMO

yeah they are ugly but the sound more than makes up for it
I was one of the first to do the gsxr rear end

but got skint (had to pay for a track day) and sold the rear end on ebay as a bolt on kit for about Ł400 (cost me Ł70) at the time so went back to the oe rear end

My bro likes his but never gets time to use it so is selling it, his is red, not even sure it's an R, know it had to go back to dealer for cutting out problems that afflicted some of these, at slow speeds.

.. ok so what would you reccomend.. im a big boy so i think the heavier bike is better, ive had a 9r -10r and just blew up my old 7r which was race tuned to stage 3.. a fookin animal... the 7r was the heaviest.. and it felt amazing i felt more at home on a heavier bike... so i thought the tl100r would be top.... ANY OTHER IDEAS??

this was my dads, god knows why he sold it
really take note of everything else has said, also make sure it has the steering damper on it as they are prone to tank slappers
also a must is, make sure it has standard cans with it for mot time as they can be a pain to get hold of, and when your change them over start the bastard without any on (straight through)
awesome sound

Pics are of the TL1000R, The S version looks totally different. Both bikes share the same motor, and the R version has about 5bhp up at the rear wheel over a 97 S, later S motors were detuned.
Although the R is more powerful, the TL1000S feels faster, as it has a huge jump in torque as you pass 6000rpm. THe TL1000R has a far more linear power delivery which makes it feel slower. The TL1000S may not handle as good as the R version, but it is 10kgs lighter, and way more flickable. Both bikes are reliable, I have 50000miles on y S with no problems. The tokico 4 pots and 6 pots on both models are decent breaks but need looking after otherwise they seize.
Both are great road bikes and make more sense for the road if comparing with some of the latest Jap 4s

Yep.
Loved the engine: bulletproof and quick enough.
Lookswise: from the front it looks like it's going fast even when standing still so that can't be bad
Handling: the rotarydamper tried to kill me several times, nearly treating me to a nice highsider 3 fucking times....stiffening up the rear by using another shock greatly improves this.

That was the S, gained quite a reputation!
I'm 6,4" so it's nice and comfy but it does require some physical effort to push it into corners.
Having said that I can't ride a modern 600 for shit, too light!
