To strip down, replace all old parts with new, and zinc plate the various visual parts that are required to give a as new finish tend to work out a little more expensive than emery paper and wd40
As I said, mine worked fine I just seem to have a spending fetish come once a month, normaly the day after payday before the missus gets hold of it all

The point is you will very likely NOT need to replace all those parts, some just need a gentle cut, maybe even brushes.
The last one I did I did not have any brushes so it is running on old HOTPOINT WASHING MACHINE BRUSHES, cut and shaped to fit now, well over a year now!!

It's easy, it took me 2 maybe 3 attempts. One spring is harder than the others due to the position of the cable, do this one first.
Just have a good look at things and you'll see it's do-able.
EDIT: forgot to say, when you turn it upside down, the weight is on the shaft at the bottom, this pushes the housing up inside, making it easier. So be sure that you're balancing the weight on the central shaft, this pushes the assembly up on the inside and makes it all possible.
Somebody needs to take some pics and do a guide, it'll save so many people so much money. I have a starter to do yet, as my spare, I'll take pics when I do it, later this week perhaps.

I would prefer a new one and not a reconditioned one. Had loads of bad luck with these!!!
