Default Hunting on tickover

My car is hunting on tickover and pissing me off................any ideas what causes this ??

most likely the idls speed controll valve, mine was doin same so i cleaned it aswell as changin cts and all probs sorted. Could aso be one of them small vac pipes thats split. just have a look and listen.

I'll get a cts...........worth a go for Ł15

Does the iscv come apart and what's the best to clean the it with?

I'd say carb cleaner mate

Mines hunts but only ever so slightly not aure if this will cure it i will give it a go.

could be a slight air leak mate, if youve taken anything off check everything you have put back but more than likely iscv

It seems to be worse when the engine warms up. I've got mikalor hose clamps but i sure i remember these caused leaks . I'll chack all the things suggested though.

Ok now i disconnected the ISCV when it was hot and hunting on tickover and it stopped and idled nice.

So how the fuk do i get it out to clean it

my old saff used to do the same i took da whole elbow off the saff to get off the iscv, very tricky to get off other wise its worth doing it this way as you can replace the gaskets to as no boby every changes them one of them could have a leek, get the dearest carb cleaner you can two tins off spray it on and catch it in a bowl and leave the iscv in it over nite. job done

I replaced all the gaskets with cometic not too long ago so tbh i dont really want to strip the inlet again

Is there no way it will come off without removing the throttle body?

just remove the 2 little bolts,pull like f*ck, you cant turn/twist it as it has 2 little locating lugs but if its really tight then you can always wrap it with masking tape to protect it and get some big grips on it for extra leverage theres only a rubber o ring in there try and get some wd40 around the edge as well

Masking tape, grips and WD40 and out came out easy.....Cheers Nick

I got it soaking in carb cleaner now so lets hope it does the trick

Did you take the ISCV apart? I find that it's best to take it apart and soak the parts and give them a good clean and them put it back together again. There should be 4 parts in total, 2 springs (remember which one goes where), a nut , a metal collar and the washer.

Best to measure how far down the nut is on the threaded shaft before you dismantle as this can affect your idle level.

Works a treat on mine.........

Remember to give the runner o-ring some sillicone grease or WD before you put it back in, much easier to remove the next time.

I didn't know it came apart but i've put it back in and all seems fine. The car has not been driven since early spetember so i think it could do with a good run now so it will have a 200 miler (each way)coz i've booked it into Motorsprt Developments for a set up and closed loop

For sure the best way to do it. I can recommend you to grease the ISCV piston with a little siliconegrease to. It worked MUCH better on my valve.
