I need to pass my bank details onto someone in Australia for payment for some car parts. I am a bit wiery of this at the min as I don't want to be ripped off. He has forwarded a picture of his passport onto me and wants a copy of mine sending to him aswell as my bank details to make a deposit. I've taken out of the passport pic the passport number and the number underneath.
Is there anything else I need to do as I've never done this before.
Cheers

Avoid paypal!
It would be usless to you, as i assume, your selling something? He would be the only one to benefit from using paypal.
If he has suggested the bank deposit then go with that. If he was going to try and rip you off, it would be a lot harder to get his money back when its actually sitting in your account unlike going through paypal.
If your just giving him your bank details to pay something in, then i wouldn't worry. But i wouldn't be giving out any passport info

The amount is 4k so Paypal would be taking a chunk of that money which I can avoid. I'll send my details over and keep an eye out.

Why do you need to send him your passport info??
All you should need to send him is your routing info and bank name.
He then just needs to give that to his bank and they'll do it all from there.
I've done plenty of bank transfers and that's all I've ever needed or needed to give out.

Mate sound a little dodgy asking for passport info.
All you need is your full bank details, iban and swiftbic number, usually found under your account/sort code number on your statement.
The bank will then do the rest. However there will still be a small chatge.

I receive several international bank transfers to my business every day.
The only details you need to supply is your IBAN and / or BIC number for your customer to pay you.
You DO NOT need to supply anything else, no name, no address and certainly no passport details, just your IBAN and BIC
Transfers usually take at least 4 / 5 working days to show as a credit in your account after they have been sent and the sender must physically have the amount as a cleared balance in their account which means they cannot fund the transfer from a credit card and then pull a chargeback on you
Do not ship any goods until the amount shows up in your balance even if they send you a nice fax / letter / e-mail from their bank manager proving the money has been sent. The transaction can be re-called at any time upto the point where it clears at your account so you could still be stung unless you wait the full 5 days.
Hope this helps
BTW, all UK banks will charge you for accepting an International Bank transfer, rates vary enormously bank between banks so best to check beforehand.
