if you need the inlet side moving you need to contact national grid gas, you can do it on line, corgi reg guys normally only can work from the emergancy control tap, or ask an nat grid/ transco guy if hes intrested in a bit of cash work next time you see them about

thanks for that

it would be moving the meter changing the pipework only after the emergency control tap

yeap you will have to contact your supplier and request it to be moved

its usually a fixed fee regardless of distance, last time i inquired it was around 400

can't the tap just be closed and the pipework modified?

that bracket should be mounted on the wall anyway as without it being fixed you can turn the meter around....allegedy

Problem is you'd need to remove the tap to do the pipework, so ideally you need to turn the gas off before the property. Its an easy job, just wish you were closer

Yep, I'm one of them lads who dig our roads up

not at the moment, might move, so not worth it. but if we stay, i'll change it to add some extra circuits for outside power etc

wanted to move the meter though to make more space in the cupboard and secure it

why would you need to remove the tap? i would want it put up on the wall to the left of where it is now and higher so you could come out of the tap and do a 90 degree to the left and then go acroos and then 90 degree up again and then around the top. and then the outlet would go down the right hand side

i would seriously consider doing it myself i guess that any old joe can buy the 3/4" pipe and fittings as i have done in the past for a steam system at work. i'm used to doing pipe work as an a/c engineer and used to making things leak tight.

You could always try telling them that your gas meter is fitted to close to the electrics as the meter & pipework should be at least 150mm away. With a bit of luck they will move it for free as the meter is much newer than the electrical installation.

good idea - i was also thinking of just telling them that it is not installed properly as the bracket is not fixed to the wall and the meter can turn and i'm concerned about it developing a leak

its a fairly new meter & should not have been fitted like that -probably done by contractors doing it on a fixed price per job. Just get them out to look at it & they should sort it free of charge.

It gets very complicated now but i think you need to contact your supplier & they contact national grid to do the work. If its not down to your supplier they should be able to give you a contact number.

sorted - phoned national grid and a fella came out after a couple of hours and sorted it for free

still not the best installation, i would have done it a bit tidier, but it's making the best of a bad setup where the pipes go through the floor
