i went from a 4x4 saff to Focus.....and the difference is emmense

admitedly it is FWD which can lead to torque steer and wheels spinning in the wet, but out of the box its a totally different car.

the focus is more stable, better mannered and a far easier car to drive.

the escort is more of an icon, and much more tuneable withing budget, but i would be too paranoid about it as an everyday car (i dont do weekend cars anymore) and parts can be very expensive

As a car, particuarly an everyday one, a focus, as just something gorgeous to have parked in the garage and take out for a spin occasionally, or as a basis for some mad big power project, the escort.

deffo be a focus if it was me

Far better having a modern car that wont be a constant pain in the arse and as mentioned the 'cossie paranoia' of it breaking

A Standard ST Escort will be reliable enough. In the first 6 mths of having mine I put 8K on it & it never missed a beat. Know of others that get used every day & do 60 Mile commutes with no probs.

I'd go for the Focus RS if you need to use the car everday or the Escort if its a Second car, evening / weekends etc if it was me.

Both very good cars, Ive had my escort cos nearly 8 years and it been a dream to own , went to the ring in it last september , 968 miles in 48 hours never missed a beat, couldent of asked more from a new car, a escort cos mantaind correctly will be as reliable as any car, not taking any thing from the focus cos I want one as a second car , but a 420 BHP escort cant be replaced easily,

Have the best of both worlds have both. Im saving for a focus
