Hi guys, as some of you will now, I went and looked at an aubergine Escort Cosworth today. I mainly went because it was close to me, and I knew before I got there that there were a couple of faults with it. It's up for £10995, and the seller paid £13999 for it this time last year, It's done 90,000 miles, and looked okay in the pictures. The guy who owns it was very honest and an all-round top bloke who didn't try to hide anything

Here is a list of the problems:

Rust on both arches and bottom of the boot lid.
Not boosting correctly (only goes half way up the boost gauge, even though it's meant to be stage one chipped - my near standard Focus would eat it).
Bulb out on the dash clocks (is this bad? Someone told me they need new clocks if this is the case)
Leather worn quite badly on the passenger seat base.
No service history (but almost all old MOTs).
No clue as to when the cambelt was last done.
No stereo (either of them)
Noisey power-steering pump
MOT & tax up next month.


The point of this is what sort of money do you guys think this is worth?

Sorry mate, it's a '96 N reg, standard apart from dump valve, exhaust, suspension (Konis), morettes and carbon fibre effect front spoiler & hockey sticks.

That's the car mate, the guy bought a set of leather seats for it Friday (exchanged his cloth ones as part of the deal). The back seats were almost factory mint, just the front two could do with being re-leathered in places. Although the rust isn't too bad on the boot lid or passenger rear arch, it is quite prominent on the driver's side arch

Again, the owner was as sound as a pound and the car is HPI clear so I might go back and make an offer, but I just wanted to know what people on here would think was a fair price, or even if it was cheap enough already?

 

if hes selling it why on earth would he put leather in it? sounds like someone offered him some tatty leather and cash for his nice cloth? seems strange either way?

 

I would say £10K tops due to Mileage,no service history,rust etc. The time of year may help you get the price down because its F***ing cold & I can't see people looking for cars in this weather.

The cam belt will set u back £200 + @ Ford which you'll want to get done if their is no sign of it being done.

A lot depends on your budget ? If you have £11K then it might be a good buy @ the right price. If you have £13K then you'll get better.

 

I have more mate, it was me being a bit dim thinking I could get a good one on the cheap!

 

Seem them on Piston heads for £9K with that mileage etc. So they are out there. Looks good in the pictures.

 

im afraid cheap ones are cheap for a reason,by the time youve spent out on body repairs,paint,cam belt,clocks,seats etc it may be worth just buying a better one in the first place?

Thats been for sale for about 5/6 months I would stay away and look for anouther. You will end up spending lots on it.

 

what do you expect at that price really?...we ALL want a bargain,but usually the cheap ones cost you more in the long run.... I might be selling my ST Esc cos in the same colour soon(pictures of it on this forum somewhere). just got to get my wheels refurbed and give it a good polish...then i will be advertising it,,,but not at 10095
