I remember this car. It used to be a guy called Rick from North London...I remember it being a bit tatty, but I did have a 'Ł15K' engine in it. I also seem to remember the wheels looking a lot brighter than in the pics.

So I'be been linked here

The wheels wern't red, they were dayglow orange

The pictures were all prior to 1996. The Bruntingthorpe video was taken with only 200 miles on the rebuilt engine about 14 PSI during running in. So yes, it does seem slow. It didn't seem slow when it was run in !!

That 378mm disc obviously did not fit under those 16" wheels. Brakes fitted at that time were 330 + 315mm AP with 4 pot AP calipers and titanium pistons. The 378mm and 355mm disks were going on after the wide-body conversion.

I still have the wheels that were going to be fitted - OZ 5 spoke magnesium 14.25 + 10.5" x 18 centrelock taken from a Le-mans McLaren F1-GTR. The new arches were made by Southdown Aero Services in Carbon Fibre / Kevlar mix, dyed black so they woiuld stone-chip black. They were made in unique moulds taken from the original Gartrac hand beaten thunder-saloon.

That's not a baked bean tin at the back. It's a 6.5" extension of the hollow back box - stainless steel.

That phone holder was a size LMAO. It was for the first Mercury one-2-one handset

At the time, the car was a real head turner and unique. From the comments from some of you it is still a head turner !!

Not bland with body & wheels the same colour. I remember quite a few imitators afterwards ....

Sadly, I eventually realised that I wouldn't get around to finishing it as I had moved on to other cars (getting old, you see ) so eventually sold it to get my new Daimler in the garage .

I haven't given up on performance cars yet though, just defected to Porsche's. I might leave the Daimler as standard - 370 BHP / 378 lb/ft

I'm currently doing lots of things to my 944 turbo to try to get close to 400 RWHP. A new project for me. Lots of tuning and no shiny things under the bonnet

Nice to see that the old beast still arouses interest ! I might even buy another one one day

Rick

The aerials were used with transmitters and scanners, mainly during the Ford Vectra challenge series where we were running car - pits comms etc.
