Default Stian's Carbon bits

I saw an article on Stian's wrc cosworth (the legend that it is) and it stated that Stian picke dup his carbon doorcards in the UK. Does anyone know where from? I know a few companied that do them (motordrive, magnum, ramsport etc) but the quality on Stian's car seems far superior.

Cheers

No I dont think there are any "genuine" wrc interior panels as such. Most rally carbon stuff is not the best quality as its there purely for weight rather than finish

I can't comment as all the ones I have seen do look fooked, but then I'd expect they do after doing so many rallies.

There are a number of companies I know I could commision to produce carbon door cards. I was just wondering if anyone knew who did Stians, as if they have a mould it will be a lot cheaper than a custom job and the quality of his cards are superb

If they are just flat carbon panels, speak to Steve Tillet at Tillett race seats. He does very high quality sheeting if you ask nicely.

He did all my floors and interior panels on the Westy.

Didn’t it say in PF when it was featured that they were a basic finish and he had them lacquered?

Yes thats correct, but the quality of the carbon itself was very nice to begin with. the finishing of the shape looked top notch

Jamie,

Speak to Alan Whittaker at motordrive directly, he's a sound down to earth bloke and he definately has the moulds....

If you tell him the type of finish your after and explain your criteria i.e. better finish than the rally car ones i'm sure he'll be able to sort you out, especially if you give him a decentish order....

The ones in my car fit ok, but i'm not your average bufty....lol, they'll never feel OEM, but if you bonded some sound deadening etc onto them and fitted them with lots of car i'm sure they'd be fine...

On another note, the WRC cars had different manual winder mechanisms, not a problem if you're using electric windows, but the carbon door cards usually have the manual penetration cast into them......

Ive modified mine to take subaru WRC winders, which are a hand wheel....

HTH

Thanks Ian, I ahve dealt with motordrive - I ordered my tunnel liner, footliners and a dash blank kit. But I found the quality not ideal. With regards to stuff liek the tunnel liners, if they are gel coated do you think that would make them look more 'showy'? lol. I am gettign carbon panels including new doors so I wont be having electric windows anyway

BTW could you send me some pics of all the carbon bits fitted in your car

Unfortunately, I think this is where the cross over from smart track cars to rally cars fails, although most well prepared rally cars look good the carbon, titty, and all the blingy bits are there for a purpose....i agree the finish isn't sometimes as good as it could be but it's I would say down to the way in which the guy who casts the parts is thinking....if all he's concerned with is the functionality, he might be lax a daisy with the gel coat etc, if he's instructed to be precise with the gel coat for a decent finish, you might get a better product....

The tunnel liners....hmm... I had one in mine, didn't like it and you'll probs have to chop it to get the sequential in....have you trial fitted that yet as you may have to modify your tunnel on the drivers side?

It's the way the moulds been made i'd guess, but it seems odd that the outer isn't shiny, it might also be to reduce glare from the tunnel....if you spoke direct to Alan, i'm sure he'd give you an answer......

I havn't any pics of the door cards, i'll take some later and post em...

Hi Ian, yes we had to modify the tunnel, and therefore cut the tunnel liner to fit witht eh FFD Seq box. If you could take some pics of your door cards fitted to the car that would be awesome Thanks mate

Default Tunnel liner

Here is the tunnel liner. Not mounted properly yet but you can see the dull finish. Is it possible to gel coat these to make them look better?

And remember Jamie,

If you are putting normal winder handles on, they will catch on the door bars and shear off on the mechanism itself.....

Just a heads up pal....we've snapped quite a few in the past....lol

pic of a door card off my phone....

Thats cool Ian. The cards look quite nice, whast your opinion on the door cards? Were they a good fit or did they need trimming?

Jamie,

We never trimmed them, apart from the blanks where the door catches/handles fit....on the ones off Motordrive, the passenger side card has extra blanks (you can see them on that first pic) where the Coralba trip meter brack attaches to the door......

Apart from that they are sweet as....

You can see what I mean about the window winders on the second to last pic with the passenger door shut and the winder between the door bars.....
