Hi, as title, car is an Escort Cosworth, and its sucking air in somewhere in the system, no obvious leaks. trying now to illiminate blocks or where air may be made.

Anyone heard of a PS pump creating Air?

Mine churns around alot but don't think it creates bubbles or introduces air into the system. The system should be sealed, it must have a hole etc somewhere to introduce the air into the system.

 

i think the cap has a release hole from memory

 

My Power Steering moves about alot, not sure about bubbles and it breaths really heavy and looks to be leaking down on to the cross member, but personally think its due to the positioning of the connecting pipe.

May be worth a little purchase for a bailey one m8.

 

I should of said a hole other than the cap.

 

if overfilled will leak out the top, the spount where you top up from has a V in this acts as the filter it is there to burst the bubbles Ah fabrication made my new one and we made sure is was the same size as the std item and had the v cut in also.... I believe the other alloy copies are smaller and may not have the v cut? maybe i'm wrong..

Hi guys.
My power steering fluid looks like a mousse (pudding texture). If I let it run low the steering wobbles like mad, top it up and it spits it out everywhere, so much so I have to wrap a rag around it.

Checked for leaks, but nothing....driving me mad.

 

auralisRS ... I don't know if it's any help to you but I just overhauled the PAS system on my 3 door (see link below )

The pump feed hose (reservoir to pump) was cracked in several places (even though it was not leaking) and the small diameter return hose had become porous (even though it looked alright) and I was gradually losing fluid from there (along the length of the hose, not just one point). I don't see how this would let air in though as the system operates under pressure

Whilst running it (to leak check it) I noticed that the fluid splashes around a lot (no bubbles though) and the internal of the bottle has two sections so the returning fluid doest mess the supply fluid ... I know this cause it was a bastard to clean

Do any of your flexiable hoses appear wet with no obvious damage ? Are all your clamps tight? Is your pump noisy (or vibrating)? Pumps hate air in the fluid and this may indicate a fluid supply problem, or maybe your pump is at fault ...

Maybe the cap is leaking and letting the pump draw in air through the reservoir ...

 

Hi, sorry been a while in replying

Well I went under the car about two weeks ago and dried it all off, the hoses appear ok, but as you said...

Is the pump noisy? well not significantly...seems the same. The cap is new, but from when its running its like swishing about like its being forced into the bottle too fast, I have a rag tied around the bottle to prevent it going everywhere.

Im just stumped. Is there any tests to do?

Obvious question but ...

where is the fluid coming out of to require you to wrap it with a rag ? Maybe your bottle is cracked? Maybe someone has done a clamp to tight and damaged the lower plastic fittings? Have you tried another bottle?

For peace of mind the fluid return on mine is pretty rapid and the fluid sloshes on in ...
