My dad drives a bently for a living (damm it ) he went to get the keys recoded today and asked if i wanted to go so i did. some pics below for those interested

my father in law has his bentley serviced there.

 

We wasnt up there all day i would of got bored
But was good to have a walk round and be nosey
Im going back tomorrow with my wallet

Thats it mate, 5 minutes down the road from me, didn`t realise it was P&A`s untill i saw that engine on the stand...

That place is massive....

 

Rolls Royce 'Merlin' ...

WW2 aircraft engine ... a legend in its own right and fitted to many aircraft including fighter and bombers (yes the Spitfire ) ...

... a 27 litre (not a typo ) V12 ... good for a realiable 1000+ horsepower (in the '40s). Full power could not be selected by flight crew (in fighters) when taking off because the torque of the engine would flip the aircraft over

 

As above there was a a sheet that told the story of the engine but didnt get a photo of it
Should of put my phone next to it to get an idea of size it was huge

 

 

 

Same engine as that guy has put in that Rover SD1?

No thinking about it, that's a Meteor, not sure of the difference.

 

the merlin is supercharged were as the meteor was naturally aspirated.

the merlins could produce well over 2000bhp back in the day. they had overhead cams, 2 plugs per cylinder and 4 valves per cylinder too not bad for an engine designed in the 40's!!

 

merlin in the spitefire didnt have fuel injection either.. where as the Me109 did so the spitfire starved of fuel during some nasty moves,anyway still beat the germans...
