Default COSSIE PISTONS

Just out of interest.........

Most engine builders seem agree that genuine Cosworth Racing Pistons are the probably the best (Without going over the top).

But what other options have we.

What is the differnece between Mahle 4 x 4 pistons and 2wd ones...?? Other than the offset gudgeon pin. Is there any difference to the comp ratio ??

And what are the other options and what Comp Ratio are they available in. Or does one have to machine their pistons to get a particular cr.

Just thought it might give some idea's to people building up new bottom ends and give them some choices of pistons and cr's.

And of course which is suitable for what ....... BHP Levels.

I know there's plenty of makes producing pistons now for the cossie.

Mahle
Cosworth
Accralite...... Just to name a few.

Hi Jim,

Long time no see! Hows things? I assume you're away again?

I can only really answer one of those questions............the 4x4 Mahle is slightly lower compression than a 2wd one, it has more of a bowl in them. When used in conjunction with a std 2wd(only 1 light precautionary skim done in it's life) it lowered my c/r to just over 7.7:1

HTH's

Cheers,
Ian

Thanks Ian...........Interesting.

I'm due back in the UK in about a week, and by then Karl will be well into the work on my cylinder head, fitted with his cams, and the turbo (t4) re-spec'd to suit.

Looking for genuine 400bhp.

Or he's fired.........
