Default carpet layers or experts. (random)

we have been renting a flat for 8 months now and where my chair is it has dented the carpet. the trouble is the chair moves so its all over the same spot and now i have moved the chair it looks stupid. does anyone know if the carpet will spring back up or will it just stay the same? im sure the landlord will be knocking money off our deposit when it comes to us moving out.
sorry its so random but any help would be great. cheers

Depends, the pile will come back up, maybe not fully, a few good hoovers should sort it.

If it has a thick underlay and hessian backed carpet, then over time the hessian can re-shape so wont come back aswell.

The landlord cannot knock money of for that!!!

If the landlord knocks money off for that, sue him. That would be classed as wear and tear.

My old man ran properties for years and that was never something that was charged for.

if you get a damp tea towel and iron over the top of the "dent" in the carpet it should come out.

Stick an ice cube on it and it should come back after a few go's.

That's what we use - always worked pretty well!

wouldn't iron directly onto it as some carpets have nylon or polyester in them (especially if they're cheap ones for rental properties) so you'll just end up with a spiky bit where all the little bits of synthetic material have melted...
