Default GROUP N ESCORT COSWORTH

Hi guys, been a member on here for some time now but don’t post that often, thought I would put some pictures up for Richard (tregmat) as he still cant walk after his crash and hasn’t seen the car in months. After seeing Steve Scott’s and Martin Hadland’s escorts in action, I decided I needed a proper escort! So sold some of my cars to help fund the project.

And this is what I bought from TF Rally sport, thanks to Tim once again as the transporter broke down on the way to collect the shell so he brought it down the next week.

The shell had just been fully bead blasted and repainted but as it was for rally use the finish wasn’t the best, being fussy about bodywork I decided it would have to be redone. First got some mk6 doors as I prefer the handles, but the shell already had one (more spares!). Decided I wanted a clean look to the bodywork so welded up both door locks and boot lid locks (still not sure on tailgate but got spares being painted) then decided it was time to tackle the front wings so drilled them off and welded on my new ones

They will take some filling but got some big wheels which will hopefully do the trick

didn’t realise it took so long to upload pics so add some more later, sorry about pic quality I am shit with a camera but they do get a little better.

Trial fitted all of the bumpers etc to see what the fit was like and what needed attention, lower spoiler (per norm) needed work so grinded out all the reacted material repaired it then baked it to see if there were any more reactions.

Cut my rear bumper as I liked it done on martins car and rubbed down the rest of the plastic work

Spent all of my free time sanding down the interior and exterior of the car, and spent a lot of time finishing the wings.

Yeah thats stumped me a bit as well.

Looks like a top project in the making. What colour scheme you going for? not the Repsol/Reyland look I assume?

Look at martins rear bumper, the recess on the opposite side to the exhaust (normally where the black insert goes). It’s normally blanked off but I cut mine off.

Hi mate it’s already been painted just haven’t had time to upload pics yet, wasn’t too keen on the repsol based colour scheme as I am going to be using it on the road as well as on track. Its one colour now! Will add pictures in the morning.

Spent the best part of a month rubbing down the rest of the bodywork and repairing any battle scars, the interior took ages as the blasting beads were painted over and were a nightmare to remove and there were a few runs on the roll cage.

More pics (thanks Johnny for the help and awesome deal on materials) and the final colour decided on, I made some final alterations to the engine bay and sprayed the interior an engine bay in the final colour!

Hi fella, drive train in above post, as for the engine? Well it aint built yet!! but I want it to be responsive, punchy and bombproof (not allot to ask ), its going to be used mostly on the track and up on the twisty mountain roads up where I live so 400/400 ish engine will be sufficient hopefully . Four of my friends are just about finished building their engines all very different specs? Will wait and have a go see what they feel like to drive. If I could have someone else’s engine it would be Mike Rainbirds, seems to have all the angles covered
