Default My series 2 Escort rs turbo rebuild

Yello all thought id post up progress of my S2 rs turbo as im basically bringing it back to life bigger and better than it was when it died of a oil leak about 6months ago. Ive had the car a year now and since it died i have got to work on it (when i could be assed lol) replacing the sills front panel and cutting out all the unwanted rust on the rear chassis rails etc and replacing the brake pipes so there all good for when the new engine is built. Recently i finally got my pay rise at work and have been able to afford nice new bits for the engine such as ARP con rod bolts new high pressure oil pump new mahle 0.50 oversized pistons new big end bearings and had the crank reground. This week having time off work i finally orderd my new fast road kent cam kit and had the head skimmed. Below are some of the pics i took along the way up to where im at now just needing to put the head on and wait to save up for the expencive bits like a new turbo, intercooler, rad and clutch. Anyway enough of the boring bit now for pictures
Heres when i first got it last year

And My second modd was twin pillar mount with boost and oil pressure gauges

Then De-spotlight the front

Thats pritty much how it stayed untill i started the rust repair replacing both sills shown below Very Very Rusty lol.

Then it was the rear chassis rail above the springs that needed attacking so got to it and replaced the rusty bit with a nice new piece.

I then cut out any rust in the inner wings and painted them black to give them a extra protection.

Then it was time to tackle the front panel as it was showing signs of age.

And trail fit of new panel

Once done then it was time for engine removal so got it in the garage and started to strip!

Views: 452
Size:  69.2 KB

Name:  DSC00412.jpg

Once stripped i pushed the car back outside and had a bit of a degrease of the engine bay to make it look better for the new engine to go into.

After;

Then it was time to trial fit my new bonnet and new front panel to line everything up before welding it all in.
Name:  DSC00426.jpg
Views: 478
Size:  80.3 KB

Once done i then primed and painted the front panel ready for the new engine to go in. Fitted the front panel now so i could spray the engine pay as one and not have two shades of red trying to do it with the engine in the way.

Yello all thought id post another update as hadnt for awhile. Been in the garage cleaning and painting the cambelt cover this week and got my flywheel skimmed to make sure it was completely smooth for my paddle clutch. Once i got it back from the engineering company i cleaned it down and fitted it to the engine along with the gear box last night so fingers crossed the engine and box will be going back into the car tonight! Any way heres the pics;
Exhaust manifold Before;

And After;
Name:  DSC00501.jpg
Views: 481

And now for the cambelt cover as i was bored with the dull beaten up look it had unfortunatly no pics of it before hand but im sure you will know what they look like;

Views: 468
Size:  63.1 KB

And here's the freshly skimmed flywheel;
Name:  DSC00494.jpg
Views: 480
Size:  39.2 KB

Now with the it bolted on along with clutch and cover;
Name:  DSC00497.jpg
Views: 636
Size:  68.0 KB

And now as it all as one with the gearbox on;
Name:  DSC00498.jpg

Name:  DSC00499.jpg
Views: 445
Size:  58.7 KB

Name:  DSC00500.jpg
Views: 442
Size:  62.7 KB

Thats all for today will take some more pictures tonight if i get time to put the engine in and post up to let you know how its going.

Yello all just a little update havent had much money to spend this month being christmas and needing to get drunk and all that just to keep with the spirit n'all lol. Update is got myself a 1.8 diesel mondeo starter motor and a new alternator and have bought 2 new front lower arm's as the old ones were looking worse for wear and the ball joint boots were split to buggery!
Anyhow heres the pics of the new bits before i ran into a spot of trouble with the lower arms!

Name:  DSC00546.jpg
Views: 426
Size:  63.7 KB

Name:  DSC00548.jpg
Views: 391
Size:  48.9 KB

Name:  DSC00578.jpg

Views: 492
Size:  85.2 KB

Name:  DSC00579_2.jpg
Views: 458
Size:  90.0 KB

And now for the Big oopps of the day lol, noticed when trying to undo the o/s/f anti-roll bar nut off connecting it to the lower arm the the thread was boogard and someone had cross threaded it putting it on so i tried my best to undo it with working it back and foward useing loads of wd40 but had no luck so out came the gas bottles to heat the nut up to help expand it to try to get it moving..then i gave it too good pulls with a braker bar then this happened....
Name:  DSC00564.jpg
Views: 415
Size:  58.0 KB

Name:  DSC00565.jpg
Views: 407
Size:  56.2 KB

soooooo i then had to nip to dovercourt and order a new anti-roll bar so im now waiting on that to turn up thursday before i can carry on fitting the lower arms and getting the car on all 4 wheels again.
While i had nothing else to do to the suspension i didnt waist the rest of the day so got my tatty looking rocker cover and decided to give it a fresh coat of paint, heres the out come;

Name:  DSC00559.jpg
Views: 394
Size:  41.6 KB

Name:  DSC00566.jpg
Views: 571
Size:  52.9 KB

I also put the lifters in as i had just rested the rocker cover on the head when putting the engine in to stop any objects falling in any unwanted places! so now all thats painted and bolted down now.

Name:  DSC00557.jpg

Next on the to do list is save for a alloy rad, intercooler and stage 3 turbo then hopefully its a runner
