Practice on a quiet road first WITH YOUR SEATBELT ON - you will hit the stoppers a LOT harder than you think first time!!

From my understanding it allows weight shift without lifting the throttle. Which would be usefull for track days if I can master it.

I know I'll never be a driving God but would like to improve my driving skills and I like to learn new things

Can potentially be used mid-corner to alter the weight, but with all due respect Steve, even racing drivers don't left foot brake in FWD cars on track!

For the road, I would say it's completely pointless. It's a servo'd road car!

So pretty pointless sussing then.

Guess I'll concentrate on staying on the grey bit between to the two grassy bits

pointless in todays world of cars, was an art perfected in the late 70's and early 80's in rallying.
no use what so ever if you have not got a dogbox anyway.

Was used also in the mid 80s on the Quattro too for example due to the huge turbolag. This was before they introduced the twin-wastegate system (first on the Pikes-peak version).

I thought it was best to LFB in a FWD car?

Rally drivers still use it though don't they, i'm pretty sure i've seen it done when you see the in car views of the drivers feet or am I mistaken?

Well, you didn't say anything about gravel in your post so I assumed you meant it was pointless on any surface!
