From my understanding it allows weight shift without lifting the throttle. Which would be usefull for track days if I can master it.
Can potentially be used mid-corner to alter the weight, but with all due respect Steve, even racing drivers don't left foot brake in FWD cars on track!
For the road, I would say it's completely pointless. It's a servo'd road car!
pointless in todays world of cars, was an art perfected in the late 70's and early 80's in rallying.
no use what so ever if you have not got a dogbox anyway.

Was used also in the mid 80s on the Quattro too for example due to the huge turbolag. This was before they introduced the twin-wastegate system (first on the Pikes-peak version).
I tried this a few yares ago in my mk3 escort, did it ther once, never again.i nearly put my head thru the windscreen and nearly had the car on the roof I have the touch of a elephant
I can do it now, first time trying it tho i fucking stalled the car because someone pulled out in front of me and i couldnt get on the clutch quick enough haha..takes some getting used to tho.

Rally drivers still use it though don't they, i'm pretty sure i've seen it done when you see the in car views of the drivers feet or am I mistaken?

not on the road sections they dont.
Well, you didn't say anything about gravel in your post so I assumed you meant it was pointless on any surface!
