hi.... ther is this gear box its a 6 speed for a cossy 2wd its has the ratio below is it any good for a cossy that has a standerd rear diff and 225 40 18


1st 2.72 to 1, 2nd 1.54 to 1, 3rd 1.24, 4th 1.09, 5th 1 to 1, 6th .42,

 

6th would be very high. is it a t56 ?

 

by my calculations on 3.62 diff and standard wheel sizes at 78oo rpm that would be 343 mph seems weird but checked it 3 times.

 

is that all

 

4th and 5th are very close together and then 6th seems miles too high

you'll struggle to keep it going with a ratio that high mate,, it's almost 55 mph per 1000 rpm

 

i have emailed the seller and asked him and he reckons its right , somethings not right ?

 

Mark Shead had a .68 5th in his 550bhp RS500 a few years back even with that Power it could not pull it, changing into 5th would completely stop accleration, put it this way my own car could not pull a .42. There is something wrong with the info given how could you change from 4th to 5th the revs are almost the same.

 

i know there are some boxes (the one in the lotus carlton for example) that have a 4th of 1:1, a 5th of something in the region of 0.75:1 and a 6th of 0.5:1 but even with that sort of power you can't really accelerate in 6th as it equates to 44mph/1000 rpm

 

some thing isnt right the gearbox is on ebay seems like a good cheap box

 

my car would be trying to pull 220 mph at 4500 rpm in 6th on that gearbox not even rod tarry could pull in 6th with that box so what use is it and 4th and 5th are not much different youd need a 5000 hp dragster to use 6th gear

with 17inch rims and 40 tyres and standard diff 7800 rpm would be 1st 57, 2nd 101, 3rd 126, 4th 143, 5th 156 and 6th 371 mph
