Got a clunking nosie coming from the front of my 4x4 cosworth, noise is present at low and high speeds and is really annoying . When you touch the brake pedal the noise stops, my local garage seem to think it is the inner cv joints on the front driveshafts and have quoted me £150 per joint and 2-3 hours labour to replace.

Has anyone else had this problem and does the above sound right?

I remeber reading on here some people have had clunking issue's with AP brakes which I also have fitted on the front of mine, is there anyway to check the brakes before I spend the money on new joints?

 

is the half-shaft 'UJ' knacked if so this causes a clunking noise

 

Not sure will have a look tomorrow, is there a recomended way to check the UJ?

 

try putting you foot on the brake lightly, while driving, see
if the noise goes, if so it's your brakes...if not ..
it's eighter the drive shaft or the bushings....

 

The noise does go when I lightly press the brake pedal so I guess it is the brakes. Is there anyway to stop the brakes from making this noise?

sounds like the pads are rattling about, change the position of the anti rattle clips iirc the fit either above or below the retaining pin.
also another thing to check is that the calipers are on the correct way round. the ap's are designed to face one way due to the different sizes of caliper piston. when i bought my calipers they were confirgured to run with the caliper at the front of he disc which meant if i fitted them the direction of rotation would have been wrong on a cosworth
easily sorted by swapping the position of the bleed nipples with thecross over fluid pipe

Just out of interest does anyone know if you can get replacement anti rattle clips for 4 pot AP calipersand if so where from?

Think my calipers are CP5200's

 

Just been on the AP Racing website and found a diagram showing how the anti rattle clips should be fitted, think I have fitted mine the wrong way round DOH!!!

Will swap them over and see if this helps.
