Default Slow broadband

Hi guys and girls

Faving a bit of trouble with the ol' tinterweb over the last few days. I am connected via a belkin wireless network, to Plusnet ISP. Normal browsing is ok, but when loading up pages with a few pictures in it slows right down, youtube etc videos are a real no-no. Used to load videos etc straight up, but now takes a few mins to fully load.

Have tried resetting the modem/router but with no luck. The main computer that is connected straight to the modem (not through wireless) is also being very slow.

Any ideas at to what could be causing it? Anything that can be done?

Thanks in advance

Rich

As well as re-booting the wireless router, pull out the BT connection from the wall for a minute or so.

Switch off router
Pull out BT plug
Wait one minute
Put BT plug back in
Switch on router

I was told this last week when I rang my ISP about our broadband being slow.... it worked as well

ok mate, do you mean the main lead or just the broadband lead so it will knock out the phone too? Not a problem if it takes out the phone mind, just want to get it right

Disconnect the phoneline I meant. If BT have been working on broadband lines in the exchange... you will need to unplug it to update it.

Have you cleared your Temp Internet files and run a Spyware programme? All this things can slow your PC down.

yes its all been cleared etc. My laptop had a fresh reboot at the weekend, and it was still slow after that. Thing is tho, there are 4 computers here, its hit all of them at the same time, so has to be ISP/line related.

Cheers

well have been using it today, and its been up to good speed, but within the last half hour or so, is back really slow again.

Could contacting the ISP be the next step?

You probably all know that we have had shitty slow Broadband for ages now and I think I know why.

It's bandwidth. Although we are on an 'Unlimited' package, our ISP is throttling the line as it see's me as a high user, even though my monthly usage falls inside the limit that we were on before the package became 'unlimited'.

Could this be your problem? Do you download much?

ok mate cheers for that. Which ISP are you with? But it seems strange that during the day yesterday it was working brilliantly, then approaching 5pm it was at roughly 10kb download speed, then at about 11pm, was taking almost 2 mins just to load up the yahoo home page for example.

It is used quite a bit i suppose, we are on an 'unlimited' package, and my old man does quite a bit of downloading etc.

Cheers
