Default Canon EOS 400D

What do the camera people think of the above?

I am thinking of buying - newish to SLR generation - just wanna take nicer photos.

Absolutley must be an SLR and with the capability of interchangeable lenses if anyone chooses to offer alternative suggestions.

Hi Stu

I dont want to go mad - as this is strictly hobbying. I have seen the Canon EOS400D for sale for about the Ł440 mark, though I understand that currently Canon are offering Ł50 cashback! Result!

This is a nice budget to start with, as it comes with a basic lens as well as the body.

It looks pretty good on the whole I must say.

JJ

PS - ignore email I sent on the basis that this now supercedes it ROFOL!!!! (Email just asked you your opinion!)

With that budget in mind, i can see nothing on the market better for you than the 400D mate, unless you can pick up a used 30D instead?

Nikon of course do a very nice offering at that level, but then i couldnt help you with features etc or loan you lenses etc for that as ive always had Canons. (Not something to actually base your decision on, but a valid point all the same)

I have always been a fan of Canon Cameras. I had a mate who was into cameras some time ago, and he always seemed to use Canons.

I must admit, I prefer to buy stuff like the body new only becauase of warranties etc. Maybe I should look at a 2nd hand 30D.

Knowing me - I will probably stick with new! LOL

All quite exciting really - I take literally thousands of photos at work during my working day, so this will be kinda nice to do for fun rather than for work.

Mind you - if you need a photo of a building feature (eg loo!) then I am your man!

If you want new, then hit eBay and grab yourself a 400D before you go to bed pal. You wont go wrong.

Seems this photography game is rather popular - Any chance of a dedicated "Photography room" Stu?

JJ, my camera that you used recently is a Nikkon D50 and for 440 you could comfortabley buy the body and a couple of different lenses.

So that might be worth considering too.

Example of a price of a genuine nikon lens for it that is perfectly up to standard for hobby use:
