many reasons.....

It routes the charge air away from the hot turbo etc.
It provides a more direct and unimpeeded flow to the inlet being a straighter route with less bends or restrictions.
Better flow than the std fiesta inlet (granted wont be pusshing the FRST inlet anywhere near its limits but it still isnt great)
Better lookng in the engine bay.

Just to name a few.

Seems a bit of a waste of time to got to all that trouble for a rover inlet.

I could knock you up a custom one pretty easily if you were local.

Air charge HAS to go through the turbo
A std RST inlet isnt a major resitriction to power is it
better looking

Yes it has to go through the turbo but then it gos through an intercooler.... what is the point of cooling it down only to heat it up again, hence routing it away from the turbo! yes i can have the turbo ceramic coated which i prob will be at some point but every little helps.

The std inlet isnt a MAJOR restriction but it isnt as good flowing as the rover item and also the cross over pipe with the very sharp angle in the elbow doesnt do much for a nice smooth flow does it?

Yes it is far better looking having a neatly routed pipe rather than having 2 90deg bends and routed over the hot turbo and over the engine causing heat soak into the cooled charge air.

In all fairness what power are you going for?

I think most of these issues are non issues at the power levels I'm making the assumption your going for (ie less than 300bhp).

if the rover inlet is better (free flowing or what ever reason) would it not be better to use no matter what stage of tune

if this is the way you wont to go that is

just asking i know nothing about tuning

To start with im only having it at low to mid 200's but that is in the curent state of tune. im building all of the basics up first so that then in 12 months or so i can develop the car further.

However alex they are issues, just not major issues, at any state of tune as something that is designed better will be better no matter what and any restriction is a restriction just not a major one in low level tuning. thats like saying that a front mount is no better than a pace double capacity item at just above std boost..... a more efficient and freeflowing core is more efficient and freeflowing no matter what.

DaBoy - chears for that link, they do the plates im after so will check genisis first and if they dont do them will get one ordered!
