Default FAO Mods and LoOnie

A somewhat overzealous mod has moved your thread about your cossie management into the graveyard that is Technical Q&A.

This will save you looking.

https://passionford.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=300618

FAO Mods,

You put questions where people look - that is life. Whilst there is a desire to pigeon hole the website, this is not actually going to improve things, as people will not troll through a number of different locations.

As a direct result, by moving threads such as this, you are simply ruining this guys chance of getting good quality advice.

That seems somewhat small minded for a desire to 'organise' things.

My two pence worth

JJ

Post it in the correct location in the first place, and you will know where to find it next time

Keep on your toes, ALOT more threads are being moved to their correct areas these days

If everyone posts them where they belong, then people will start to use the correct sections and others will see them too.
So in the long run, you are more likely to get a response when its posted in a technical section as opposed to a "chat" area.

I agree, too many technical posts in GD end up on page 3 in half a day and consequently unless the person who is best to reply happens to log in just as you are posting it they could well end up missing it.

Very bad news sadly. I have used many other sites that use this approach for other marques, and it substantially reduces the quality of the feedback.

Worse of all it will have a major effect on the reaction time.

It is a completely utopian idea that has no real chance of success.

Lets hope that the mods consider putting this to the vote by the members before actioning this, else you may kill the site completely!

What a superb idea!

Why dont we remove ALL other sections of the forum and just have General Discussion.
Im sure you would love to trawl through hundreds of pages just to find the thread you started 30 mins ago

Dont forget, even after a thread has been moved, if you receive an email notification that someone has replied, it does still take you to the thread, even though it has moved.

You are missing the point.
Now that all threads are being moved to where they should be, those sections will now become busier, and in the long run you will get a better audience for your question than posting it in a general chat area.

Why can't a Moved: link be left like all other forums have? You just click on the title and it will take you to where the thread has been moved to.

Now read the link (dated 22 feb 2005).

This completely proves my point (given the extremely low general subscription to Technical Q&A etc).

Now dont get me wrong, I usually like to steer well clear of the politics, but I just wanted to put this point of view across in a sensible and non-agressive way.

The frank truth is that when I first used this forum, I played by the rules and posted in the correct places. It took days to get an answer, usually from one of only very very few people.

I then discovered the vacuum that is GD. What I couldnt get over was the speed and accuracy of the responses I was getting.

Not intending to start WW3, but my position on this remains unfaultering, but GD remains the place that people provide best advice (Chip - I cannot recall the last time I saw you post anywhere but GD as a point!)

If people used the correct places that wouldnt happen to you and many other new users and more of them would hang around potentially.

Ref your first point, discounting the for sale related forum, there are 23 different sections! Not acceptable.

Ref your second point - I was using you as an example of a good contributor. As such, you dont contribute under techincal Q&A, so stop being a hypocrite!

Yet another discussion swept under the carpet

Jay think of it this way. The more officious, self righteous and arrogant the mods become, the less they are respected, and the worse the site becomes.

It is almost a "because I said so" attitude!

I bet if you went on a WI forum full of old women moaning and slagging each other off, there would be less than there is on here!

Ive never seen such a bunch of moaning old buggers.
Its pretty simple, post in the correct area and it wont get moved.
If you cant get your head round that, how did you get online in the first place?

Not one for intelligent debate, Martin, are you?

Jay - I would have expected a little more reasoned response from you however. From my experience you have always been one of the best Mods on the site. I would have hoped for a more reasoned discussion with you at least.

Pot kettle?

If you cant get your head around something as basic as a thread being moved to its correct and relevant section, I dont think you are in any position to engage in intelligent debate.........

PS.

Here is an example of a thread posted in the correct section, care to "inteligently discuss" and explain to me why it would be better off buried in GD where Stu and the others making useful replies would have been less likely to see it?

I agree.

To be frank, I posted because I wanted to get my point of view across. I am a member of a BMW forum which was really really good for advice. They went down the route of religiously modding the posts into the right categories. Sadly they had so many most of the posts were only viewed by a really low number of people and as such many many go unanswered.

PF's GD is a truly awesome resourse! There is little if nothing that couldnt get some form of a useful response. It is my belief that the over-modding of it may kill that.

I truly hope that I am wrong.
