Cheers guys have run a load of checks and can't find anything abnormal?
I think my system must have crashed in the night and binned the modem as it was still running
Obviously all installed and running perfect again now

if your running XP try a system restore and restore to an earlier time, but i dont think it will reinstall it, but worth a try. maybe worth installing the modem again, get connected to the net, update your virus and spyware definitions then immediatly discounect from the net and run a virus check etc, just in case yyour definitions are not new enuff to identify summit

My Norton definitions are 100% up to date and i have just run a full system scan!
Nothing there that shouldn't be
Maybe it was the wife in the middle of the night trying to get me to stop using the comp

if the driver fails Windows XP will uninstall it to prevent the system failing to start or halting the machine.
Windows will only uninstall it if it thinks there was a hardware error.
Check the drivers are uptodate and the device is not overheating
