Default Painting rear beams and the likes.

Right stripped down my rear beam it needs painting/powder coating. I have all the tools to paint it myself, but would powder coating be better?

If painting can anyone recommend using any products primer / paint.

Cheers

Dont waste your time or money painting it...just have it shot blasted and powder coated. It will come back looking much better than new adn will be very durable. Paint will soon chip, then rust will creep underneith and before you know it you've got a mess. Powder coating aint as expensive as people seem to assume either. Find your local place in your yellow pages and go round for a quote.

If you want to paint it, an alternative is to use POR-15 paint. Its not like an ordinary paint, and it comes out so well, you have to squint to see any paint strokes.

This paint will NEVER come off and Ive seen someone take to it with a hammer and it wont chip off.. its that hard.

Id recommend sandblasting it first but accoding to the company you can use it on rusted surfaces

I would recommend to all who have powder coating done to clean off all mating surfaces and check bolts are tightened again after use for the first time. With the powder coating being a thinker layer of paint than normal aerosol paint, it does expand/contract with heat.

Just check everything is tight once used a few times....

I know just have items shot blast then wet sprayed.... although powder caoting is durable and cheaper if you get brake cleaner on it... it fucks the finish up good and proper...

They are all vastly different in prices between place's...use some one who does powdercoating of car parts tho if possible. I tried out a place who normaly does garden stuff and flag poles and the stuff came back crap, dirt still in places that he'd missed when shot blasting, no threaded parts masked off along with big drips hanging off some parts. Trouble is for what he does normaly that was acceptable. The place I use now do lots of car and motorbike parts so they are quite well clued up..every thing is masked off inc gasket surfaces on engine/gearbox parts and the finish is spot on.
