i have a t3 from an escort rst and the turbine shaft has play in it can i replace the bearings my self? any advice would be great cheers

 

you can but youd be better getting it totally stripped down and rebuilt

 

A minor service kit won't necessarily be the answer.

if it was just smoking then yes it almost certainly would. because theres play in the shaft chances are the alloy back plate behind the compressor will be substantially worn meaning seals alone won't fix it.

You will probably also find the shaft is scored aswell.

 

i dont ohnistly know if it was smokeing as i got the turbo from a friend with an engine i bought that needs a complete overhall. the reason i know their is play in the shaft is cos i han move it with my hands
any idea how much to get it refurb by a company and where?

 

how much play are we talking.

All wet floating bearing turbos have a touch of play, but if you can get the compressor to foul the housing then generally its worn to excess.

A refurb is usually just an exchanged unit these days.
