hylomar red aint it

but why you would use it on a water pump i really dont know,,,,,, a gasket should be all thats needed as its not a hot part of the engine,,,, CAUSE THE WATER IS WHAT SHOULD BE KEEPING THE ENGINE TEMPS DOWN

think you will just need hylomar rather than the red stuff,,,, if you need any !!!

This is whats been said...

It's not to bad a job from memory, I did it about 5 years ago so I'm not a 100% what I did, But take your time, But you can undo the engine mount and drop it down to make it easier for yourself...

I'd also undo the water pump pulley bolts while the belt is on it should make them easier to undo, And once you've got it all off make sure you clean the surfaces properly, Their is no gasket as such.. You will need a tube of high temp instant gasket stuff.

Use a COMETIC re useable gasket here, no leak no sealer.
Ohterwise LOCTITE 5900 or 5910, can be used as well as or instead of a gasket.
Other RTV gasket stuff do contains acids that are used to cure the sealant, but will cause no harm used in this area.
It does not need to be high temp stuff at all, as only gets to around 95C here, silicone gasket is ok so long as not near water or oil!!

No wonder there are so many people with fucked engines these days

Do ford / vauxhall jam loads of sealer on everything when they assemble engines ??? NO, they dont

If you had an engine rebuilt buy a reputable builder . Mark shead / harvey etc etc , would they jam every gasket with sealer ???,,NO,,

WHY WHY WHY do people ramm loads of sealer on gaskets , it actualy makes it easeier to leak than just fitting a quality gasket

SR20's don't have a gasket as standard for the water pump.

Well, the two i've taken apart haven't.

Red Hermetite is what you need..............dont listen to everyon else about using gaskets, there IS no gasket this is how it was fitted from the factory on the SR20DE/T

clean the surfaces 1st well, and make sure you do bolt the pump back evenly a bit at a time.

just as well you dont build nissan engines then cause when you buy a engine gasket set you get very few gaskets and a tube of sealer!!!

may be because japs can machine 2 flat surfaces they dont need gaskets

ive yet to see a freshly built yb engine that doesnt have a leak, believe me rebuilt nissan engines dont leak.....

The thing you are forgetting paul is, when ford fit bits together they are done with new bits which are corrosion free no distortion at all.
As some cossie are now over 20 years old this will not be the case.
If it takes a bit of sealer to stop a leak, what does it matter, surely it is better to stop the leak rather than have a leak just cause someone doesn't like sealer, or because ford did not use any.
Ford don't always get it right, like the almighty cock up with cossie cooling systems, which they rejigged with the 4x4.
Rolls Royce use sealer on BRAND NEW JET ENGINES, as do USAF on fighters, with brand new components.
It would be intersting to see how a sealer can cause leaks, most likely the leak was there to start with, hence the sealer, and the sealer failed to cure it!!

i get my instant gasket from finnings in peterborough for rebuilding the caterpillars although shouldnt need it, the old cats are 30 years old now so its a must or leeks everywhere. i took of and cleaned out an engine oil cooler on a cat d8k 2 weeks ago as oil was overheating and it was full of silicon and instant gasket fucking stuff gets everywhere. sometimes you have no choice but to use it though

its hot for skin yeah,,,,, but its not hot enough to loosen the sealent or melt a gasket though is it

i wouldnt wanna poor petrol on my balls and ignite them when a spark plug either,,,,, but id poor it in a engine and set fire to it

maybe its cause ones safe to doe and the other one only a mental patient would do

coolent on older cars dont go over 100 degrees and on newer cars to a maxe of 120 degrees,,,,,, the fire rings og a head gasket go a "little" bit over this im sure
