I was once told not to get a calcium one, as they require a high re-charge rate from the alternator, and the old style alternator on our old cossies can't supply enough apparently.

Make of that what you will!

I just went to halfords and got one that wasn't calcium and its guarnteed for 3 years I think!

halfords and take it back every year wether its fucked or not, there all date stamped and its the cheepest battery you will ever buy

my cossie had 3 batteries as the alarm killed them when it was off the road,, that battery was also in the cabrio before that,,, before that my tennis cabrio,,, before than my 1300 escort,,,,, and before that was in my orion

I BOUGHT THE ORION BACK IN 99 WITH THAT BATTERY ALREADY FITTED

so it lasted 7 years,,, and i got a new battery 4 days before it was nicked too

Nearly right!!
You can use a CALCIUM battery on your cossie but it will not last long as charge rate will be way too high.
These batteries cannot take high current charge rates as found on older cars, that's why most new cars charge is ecu controlled, they charge VERY slowly.
You can get a heavy duty with more plates for more amps cranking, or for morer AH capacity install a larger one in the same tray, will be a bit longer.
FORD terminals are on the way out, as most are now round, my local battery specialist does not even stock a ford type one!!
You can get a 70 ah one in there no problem, or gel mat etc battery but not needed as deep cycle battery.

I run a 097 on mine, the better quality battery the better it is..... eg I had 2 batterys for my old 3dr 1 Bosch and 1 cheapo (car sat in garage alot so was handy to have a battery to swap over when the 1 on car was flat which was most of the time lol) you could hear the difference in the speed of the starter motor when the Bosch battery was on the car. I work for Unipart Automotive and they do a 2, 3 or 4 year guarantee battery and we hardly have any probs (best seller is the 3 year 1).

Not a clue tbh...... as tabetha says hardly sell any square terminal batteries nowadays. It's a piec of piss to change to round terminals in the future if you really have to but for the time don't worry.

You can still get ford terminal ones just saying they are defo on the way out though, my local place tells me he can't even remember selling one this year!!, but you can simply buy lug round terminal ends and bolt these on, to a round battery post one

I only ever use Bosch batteries for my own car and I've found they are cheapest from Vauxhall dealerships with the discount we get - so find someone you know that gets one too

Never had any problems with the cheapo batteries from places like Eurocarparts except on bmws [an autoelectrician explained to me why but he's a 60 year old white jamaican with the full on accent and after 2 minutes of him talking I zone out and start thinking about that film Cool Runnings ].

thats where i work m8. cheap batteries from ecp are made by bosch, hence why no trouble.

Staff discount on them is extremely generous too....
