basically, i've sold a turbo to someone (without a guarantee), it was with him for 3-4 weeks and a claimed 550 miles before it went wrong. the damage done was a missing exhaust blade and no boost. i sold it to him as a low mileage unit (approx 2-3000 miles) with cutback blades and a 360 degree thrust. i know the entire history of the turbo from the moment it was built, to the moment i sold it, so the description was accurate.
it now gets complicated, as he wants his money back, he also claims it dosen't have cutback blades (which his 'turbo guy' told him BEFORE it was fitted, the same guy also said he doubts the mileage and doubts it has a 360 thrust in it), and i think he's wrecked it.
things i know:
the car was set up by NMS on a t3
he had to turn the housings to make it fit as it wasn't on a cossie before.
he confessed he knows nothing about turbos
he said it was fine at the start, then went wrong. he also said his old turbo died the same way (lost boost, but was just 'old')
what i'm thinking:
how can i guarantee that he has fitted it correctly? and has checked all of the obvious things that could have caused the failure of his old turbo?
has running a t3 map caused high egt's and burnt the exhaust turbine to the extent that one of the blades has fallen off?
if he thought it didn't have cutback blades, why did he put it on in the first place?
so come on people, what would you do?

Sold in working order with no warranty.
If you have a big tinge of guilt maybe offer to go halves with him or something, but i dont really think you are morally obliged to so anything.
Especially as by the sounds of it his "turbo expert" looked at it and obviously deemed it fit for use, so whatever fault it has now it didnt have when you sold it to him!

Sold as seen he appears to admit a few facts that l would have thought he would have kept quite like it failed in the same way as his last one and it appears from what you are saying that it has been played with

Its unfortunate that it broke (for whatever reason), but it was his choice to try and save some money over a new one so its tough titty.

Just say sorry mate but when i sold it to you it was working fine,
If the turbo was fucked from the start it would not of done 500+ miles and for all you know in 3-4 weeks it could of done 1000-2000 miles etc
Also mention that it must be something else causing the issue as his last turbo died in the same fashion etc
